And now for something completely different...
So this past weekend was a busy one (before the Monday happenings). Graduation was on Saturday, and a few of my student workers were walking so I went there to support them. It was my 5th DUC graduation that I've been to, and not much has changed. The speakers were horrible, the president used the same speech he's used for the past two decades, and it was hot as heck. But, it was great seeing my kids walk across that stage and begin their descent into adulthood. I stand by my choice of wording.
On Sunday was the annual Bay to Breakers marathon that the city of S.F. sponsors. It was my first one. I had a blast. Literally tens of thousands of people run/walk/bike/stumble the 7 miles from one end of the city to the other. Most folks come in costumes, usually a theme with their friends or groups. My pals and I went in 80s excercise type garb. Headbands, short shorts, tube socks, the works. We pushed around a homemade cart that was filled with our stuff and booze up the wazoo. Mmm...love me some faderade. By the time we got near the finish line (mile 6.5) they had already closed the gate, but we ended up at Dolores Park, this gorgeous park in the middle of the city. Though it was foggy and cloudy at the race (frickin freezin!) it was warm and sunny at the park. We all took naps in the middle of the gay beach (the section of the park where the gays sunbathe) and then went home to shower and rest up. Then we went back out to the 'Stro for a night cap and dinner. Great times were had by all, though my feet are still achy after walking a good 9 miles all around da city.
And of course, what story is complete with visuals! Enjoy!
