Oh my stars and garters, I can't believe it! I Won! I entered into a costume contest on Fanboys of the Universe, a forum for gay comic geeks. I so didn't think I'd win since there were some epic costumes entered. But lo and behold, I won first prize for my Steve costume! $100 itunes gift card baby! So exciting!

New art exhibit at good ol' Alemany. They're all made from recycles goods. I keep expecting munchkins to come out and sing Lolipop Guild. All in all, I'm really enjoying it. Though the speakers playing bird calls may get a bit old...

Mini-Story Horror Contest

I entered a horror story contest, but where you had to say why you believe in ghosts in 25 words or less. It was a lot harder than you'd think. I'm not saying that I believe in ghosts, but I've watched enough movies to know that the moment you say "I don't believe in ghosts" is when they get ya.
This is the tale of how La llorona tried to kidnap my baby brother when we visited my grandmother's farm in Mexico many years ago. I submitted two entries, so here's hoping!

· Out in the country, in a cement room. No lights, plenty of wind. The iron door creaks open, letting the darkness in.

· The moonlight fills the room, shadows scurry to and fro. Iron door creaks open, calling out to the baby. Baby crawls to the darkness, where it is swallowed whole.

Part of my costume came in today. I ordered a large, since I didn't want it to be too tight. I bounce from a large to a medium depending on the make of the shirt. But frackin'-a, this is huge! It's a 100% cotton so a hot water wash will shrink it down some. Hopefully. If not, gotta use the ol' pinning behind your back trick.

(entry for an online contest to win a 42'' screen LCD TV)

I remember one Christmas Eve when I was 8, I kept staring at the giant box underneath our Christmas tree. The house was filled with familia from all over, and these shindigs always went on until morning. I remember my primo and I tag teaming on my parents, begging them to let us open one gift. Just one, we said, and we'd wait for the rest until the morning. Eventually our cuteness (and annoying pleads) wore them down, and they said, "Uno, Solamente uno." (One. Just one.) We bolted to the tree, snatched it up and vanished into my room.
Ripping through the blue parchment paper, we discovered the original, classic Nintendo Entertainment System. But not just any ol' NES. This was the combo pack of NES and Power Pad. Using our combined intellect (8 & 10 years old, respectively), we were able to set up the system and began playing. Mario was amazing. My cousin was a natural, plowing through the 1st level with ease. I played as Luigi (even though it was my system, he was older, thus, in charge). After a few levels, we pulled out the power pad.
And played with it for 3 hours straight.
My parents would check in on us periodically, and we'd be sweating up a storm, but laughing, giggling, and our energy reserves seemed limitless. Eventually when we did get tired, we got on our knees and used our hands to play the racing games, slamming against the power pad to go faster and faster.
Ever since then, gaming has been a part of my life. But to this day, I can still feel the rush, the joy, and the wonderment of my very first video gaming system.
